WPI-AIMECでは、「海洋生態系変動メカニズムの解明と予測」の実現に向けた包括的課題として5つのグランド・チャレンジ（GC）を策定しています。

WPI-AIMECでは、5つのグランド・チャレンジ(GC)項目のを達成に向けて、機関を超えた分野融合型研究や国際共同研究を推進するためのの3つの研究クラスターを設置しています。
これらは固定的な組織ではなく、研究者の自由な参画と離脱を可能とする柔軟で横断的な研究枠組です。
このたび、3つのクラスター全体で6～7名のAIMEC研究員もしくはAIMECポストドクトラル研究員を募集します。

Advanced Institute for Marine Ecosystem Change (WPI-AIMEC), an alliance-type WPI research center jointly established by Tohoku University and JAMSTEC, aims to elucidate the response and adaptation mechanisms of marine ecosystems to environmental changes, and to realize their predictions through interdisciplinary and international collaborative research.
Through these efforts, WPI-AIMEC contributes to planetary stewardship aimed at regenerating and restoring oceans and ecosystems toward the realization of a sustainable global environment and human society

Furthermore, WPI-AIMEC has formulated five Grand Challenges (GCs) as an overarching research agenda to realize the elucidation and prediction of marine ecosystem changes.

GC1:Elucidating adaptability and vulnerability of marine ecosystems to physiochemical divers
GC2:Decoding climate-ocean-ecosystem connectivity and spatiotemporal variability
GC3:Coupling of surface and twilight zone ecosystems and the impact on biogeochemical cycles
GC4:Resolving complexities in coastal marine ecosystems and the impact of human activities
GC5:Promoting planetary stewardship through projection of marine ecosystem change

As part of JAMSTEC's ongoing efforts to promote "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" and invigorate research activities, we are promoting a program called the "JAMSTEC Restart Support Recruitment". JAMSTECは、第5期中長期計画にて下記研究開発を実施いたします。
・ 地球環境変動の仕組みの把握、地震・火山・津波の発生メカニズムの理解とそれらが引き起こす災害対策への貢献、地球生命の誕生や初期進化とそれに続く海洋生態系の多様化と進化の理解、物質循環像・資源形成機構・環境影響の解明、海洋・地球・生命と人間活動の相互作用とその将来変動の予測や海洋地球デジタルツインの構築などを通じた、地球規模現象の理解と課題の解決に資する研究開発の推進
・上記研究開発によって得られた知的基盤の利活用の推進を通じた、人類の知的資産の創造や新たなイノベーションの創出への貢献
・調査・観測等により取得したデータの統合及び解析機能の強化による、有用な情報の創生と発信
・ 広域かつ大水深への対応が可能な海洋調査・深海探査システムの実現に向け、高精度化、無人化・省力化、効率化、小型化等を目指した工学的な基礎研究や要素技術開発の強化、推進

JAMSTEC is now recruiting approximately 5 promising early career researchers as Researchers or Researchers (II) to lead future research and development initiatives and engage in pioneering and innovative research.
Successful candidates are on a tenure-track and are eligible for the Selection Examination for the Position of Permanent Employee (a tenured position).

We will conduct the following research and development activities under our fifth Medium-to-Long-Term Plan:
・Promoting research and development to deepen understanding of global-scale phenomena and address related challenges through: understanding the mechanisms of global environmental change; comprehending the generation mechanisms of earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis to contribute to disaster prevention measures; exploring the co-evolution of Earth and Life and the diversity and function of marine ecosystems; elucidating environmental geochemical cycles, formation mechanisms of submarine resources, and environmental impacts; and predicting future changes in the interactions between the ocean, Earth, life, and human activities, including the development of digital twins of the ocean.
・Contributing to the creation of humanity's intellectual assets and fostering new innovations by promoting the use and application of the knowledge base acquired through research and development.
・Generating and disseminating valuable information by integrating data from surveys and observations and strengthening analytical capabilities.
・Strengthening and promoting fundamental engineering research and elemental technology development to create ocean observation and deep-sea exploration systems for vast and deep-sea environments, with a focus on the domains of high-precision, unmanned, labour-saving, efficient, and miniaturization.
