The Role:
The Specialist, Brand Merchandising will work closely with the Manager, Merchandising HOKA on the Japan strategy which encompasses all elements of the value proposition (Right Product at the Right Place at the Right Time for the Right Consumer) in Japan. Leveraging Omni-channel and wholesale insights, trend, brand, and category strategies, this person will define the seasonal Japan consumer right assortments and flow in support of HOKA’s financial goals and strategic brand positioning within our DTC, Sporting Goods, Performance Specialty Channels, and Lifestyle Accounts. They will build relationships with key cross-functional business partners including Sales, Ecom, Retail, Planning, and Marketing to help support a consistent and compelling brand presentation within Japan. They will also work on any Japan SMU product creation initiatives in partnership with Global product team as a project lead overseeing the budget, timeline and output quality. In addition to footwear merchandising leadership, this role will also oversee apparel merchandising in Japan, creating a consistent head to toe expression and flow for the brand.

1 | 【本ポジションについて】 • Lead development of consumer-right assortments, segmentation, and flow by category, ensuring assortments deliver the consumer requirements and financial targets for the Japan. • Ensure all Japan teams and key stakeholders across DTC, marketing, sales are appropriately engaged in their part in the delivery of the assortment strategy. • Work with the Manager, HOKA Merchandising on competition, future needs, and input to ensure the Japan market continues to deliver innovative product and flawless execution to our consumers. • Collaborate with Marketing to coordinate the delivery of product selling information such as features and benefits, technology stories, etc. to the Japan sales teams within the appropriate channels. • Present the Japan merchandise strategy, product features, supporting insights, assortment guidance and differentiation plans to Sales, DTC and Merchandising leadership during key GTM milestone meetings and to customers in pre-line and pre-sell meetings. • Support Demand Planning, DTC Merchandising as well as Japan sales to ensure seasonal forecasts reflect product initiatives, brand strategy, and demand plans. Work with cross functional stakeholders to ensure the quantitative and qualitative feedback on the range is accurate and delivered in a timely manner. • Travel regularly to key local markets to stay in touch with trends, consumers, and the execution of the strategy. • Champion a mindset and practice of continuous innovation and improvement; analyzing competitor activity, and pricing strategies, and identifying assortment opportunities and product trends within appropriate channels. • When opportunities arise for regional SMU (footwear and/or apparel), lead the project from inception to go-to-market |

3 | 【Education/ Experience】 • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience. • 5-7 years of specific Footwear & Apparel Merchandising, or similar experience in a performance Footwear & Apparel brand preferred. • Experience in a performance category (Road running, track and field, hiking, outdoor) is preferred. • Cross-functional experience required, with the ability to build a collaborative, supportive operating environment. 【Skills/Competencies】 • Love partaking in the Performance activities (Road running, track and field, hiking, outdoor) • Persuasive communicator with proven negotiation and influencing skills; easily adapts to needs of different audiences. • Experience influencing in a matrixed environment; drive alignment between product, sales, and marketing. • Business acumen - continuously evaluates competitors and the marketplace within the category/ appropriate channels to creatively capitalize on market opportunities. • Experience resolving complex problems. • Experience designing and delivering compelling presentations for small and large audiences. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Languages: Native-level Japanese, Business level English as minimum • Travel required on seasonal basis.
