東北大学及び海洋研究開発機構（以下JAMSTEC）によるアライアンス型WPI拠点である変動海洋エコシステム高等研究所(以下WPI-AIMEC)では、分野融合研究や国際共同研究を通じて「海洋生態系変動メカニズムの解明と予測」を実現し、持続可能な海洋・地球環境と人間社会の実現に向けた惑星スチュワードシップへの貢献を目指しています。
東北大学保有の大規模計算科学計算システムスーパーコンピュータ「AOBA」や、JAMSTEC保有のスーパーコンピュータ「地球シミュレータ」（以下両者をあわせて「HPC」とする。）を活用し、先進的な地球システムモデル（ESM）の構築、ESMを含む各種数値モデルの運用、研究開発を技術的側面から支援し、GCを推進するAIMEC技術研究員を1名募集いたします。
採用者は、HPC（東北大学AOBAおよびJAMSTEC地球シミュレータ）およびWPI-AIMEC研究所共用のワークステーションにおける数値モデルの運用、研究開発支援（OR&D）を担当します。
海洋生態系研究における新たな課題解決のため、東北大学とJAMSTECの間の学際的な研究者チームと緊密に連携し、主に海洋生態系の数値モデルの開発と運用に取り組みます。

Advanced Institute for Marine Ecosystem Change (WPI-AIMEC), an alliance-type WPI research center jointly established by Tohoku University and JAMSTEC, aims to realize the “elucidation and prediction of the mechanisms of marine ecosystem fluctuations” through interdisciplinary and international collaborative research, and to contribute to planetary stewardship toward a sustainable ocean, Earth, and human society. For this reason, WPI-AIMEC has established five Grand Challenges (GCs) as comprehensive initiatives aimed at “Elucidating and Predicting the Mechanisms of Marine Ecosystem Fluctuations”
To advance these Grand Challenges, we will utilize Tohoku University’s High-Performance Computing System supercomputer “AOBA” and JAMSTEC’s supercomputer “Earth Simulator” (hereinafter collectively referred to as HPC). We are seeking one AIMEC Research Engineer to provide technical support for the development of advanced Earth System Models (ESMs), the operation of various numerical models, including ESMs, and research and development (R&D), to strongly promote the GCs.
The successful candidate will be responsible for operations, research and development support (OR&D) of numerical models on the HPC systems (Tohoku University AOBA and JAMSTEC Earth Simulator) as well as WPI-AIMEC institute-level shared workstations. This individual will work closely with multidisciplinary teams of researchers between Tohoku University and JAMSTEC to solve novel problems in our marine ecosystem research, focusing primarily on the development and operation of numerical models of marine ecosystems.
